Content Policy

We write about memes. That is a low-stakes subject, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. But meme history is full of confidently repeated nonsense — wrong origin, wrong year, wrong person credited — and we would rather not add to it. This page is what we hold ourselves to.

Who writes this

Every article carries a byline naming its writer, and a "Reviewed by" line naming whoever checked it before it went live. Where a named individual wrote the piece, we say so. Where it was produced by the team rather than one person, the byline reads templates.meme Editorial Team and means exactly that — not a person we invented to look more authoritative.

How we review

No post is published without a second person reading it. Review covers the things we can actually be wrong about:

• Origin claims — where a template came from, and when.
• Attribution — who made or first posted the image, where that is known.
• Names, dates, and links, checked against the sources cited.
• Whether the templates we point you at actually exist and still download.

Sourcing

Claims about a meme's origin get a source. We prefer primary evidence — the original post, thread, upload, or archived page — over a secondary write-up repeating it. Where the origin is genuinely disputed or unknown, we say it is disputed or unknown rather than picking the tidiest story. "Widely believed" is not the same as "documented", and we try to keep the difference visible.

How we use AI

We use AI tooling for drafting help, editing, and tidying metadata. We do not publish AI output unread, and we do not put a human name on something a human did not check. Every article on this site has been read and approved by a person before publication, and the byline reflects who is accountable for it.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it in place and update the "Updated" date on the article. We do not quietly delete a post to make an error disappear. For anything beyond a typo, the correction is noted in the article itself.

Templates and rights

The templates in our library are user-submitted or collected from public sources, and many are derived from copyrighted stills, art, or photographs. We host them for commentary, parody, and remix. If you hold rights to something here and want it gone, our DMCA page tells you how to say so, and we act on valid requests.

What we will not run

No paid placements dressed up as editorial. No fabricated quotes, fabricated experts, or invented bylines. No content that exists purely to rank rather than to be read.
