This widely recognized webcomic strip was created in 2011 by French comic artist and animator Corentin Penloup (better known online under the pseudonym "Hark" or on his blog Les strips de Hark).

Titled originally in French as "Bâton Roue" (Baton Wheel), the three-panel comic illustrates a young man casually riding a bicycle on an open paved path alongside a grassy field. In the second panel, he deliberately reaches down and jams a wooden stick straight into the spokes of his own front wheel. In the final panel, having predictably flipped over the handlebars, he lies collapsed on the ground clutching his injured knee while crying in agony and blaming an outside scapegoat or unseen party for his predicament.

The comic gained international virality throughout 2012 and 2013 across Tumblr, Reddit (especially r/comics, r/me_irl, and political subreddits), and 4chan. It became the web's undisputed benchmark format for demonstrating self-inflicted wounds, shooting yourself in the foot, blaming innocent external factors for problems entirely created by your own foolishness, and pure cognitive dissonance.
