Killing Chainsaw Man Is the Reason This Heart Still Beats / Katana Man Heart Beats / Samurai Sword Vengeance Quote / Katana Man Motivation Meme

Origin

This scene originates directly from Chapter 37 of Tatsuki Fujimoto's manga series Chainsaw Man (adapted into Episode 12 of the anime's first season).

During the train confrontation at the climax of the Katana Man arc, Katana Man (the grandson of the mob boss Denji killed in Chapter 1) faces off against Denji. Katana Man is driven entirely by blood vengeance for his grandfather, even justifying working with the Gun Devil to achieve it. When confronted about his obsessive, self-destructive vendetta and how far he has fallen, he coldly proclaims his single driving purpose in life: "Killing Chainsaw Man is the reason this heart still beats."

In manga forums, Reddit (particularly r/chainsawmancirclejerk and r/ChainsawMan), and Twitter/X, fans extracted the stark dialogue panel of Katana Man delivering the line. The quote transformed into a popular snowclone format—"[Doing X] is the reason this heart still beats"—used to represent an unhinged, petty, or all-consuming obsession that fuels a person's entire existence.

Key Vibes

Pure spite, obsessive motivation, living entirely out of pettiness, dramatic edginess, and single-minded vengeance.

Visual Breakdown

• The Character (Center): Katana Man / Samurai Sword in his hybrid transformation or human form, staring intensely with cold, single-minded determination.
• The Atmosphere: Gritty, dark, high-contrast ink crosshatching typical of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s battle climaxes, usually framed inside the cramped, shadowy train car.
• The Dialogue: Bold black-and-white speech bubbles framing the declaration, often edited to replace "Chainsaw Man" or the entire premise with absurd personal habits.
• The Composition: A tense, confrontational close-up focusing on his unyielding hostility and total lack of compromise.

Description Paragraph

The humor comes from taking one of the edgiest, most melodramatically serious declarations of revenge in modern shonen manga and applying it to extremely petty, mundane, or self-sabotaging daily habits. In the story, Katana Man is an irredeemable avenger willing to tear through civilians just to settle a personal score. Meme creators flip that dramatic hatred on its head by substituting his vendetta with their own irrational fuel—such as praying on an enemy's downfall, waiting for a delayed video game sequel, or surviving solely to outlive an annoying coworker. It serves as the ultimate badge of honor for being motivated purely by spite.
