The Wojak (Polish for "warrior" or "soldier") is one of the most foundational and enduring characters in internet history. It first appeared on the Polish imageboard Vichan in 2009 and later exploded on 4chan. It was originally created to represent a feeling of melancholy or loneliness, but it has since evolved into an entire universe of characters used to illustrate virtually every human emotion and subculture archetype.
